Venous pressure as a guide to pneumoperitoneum therapy in pulmonary emphysema.

چکیده
The striking improvement of symptoms in most patients with pulmonary emphysema treated with pneumoperitoneum has been correlated with changes in pulmonary function by Carter, Gaensler et al.’2 Although the circulatory changes in pulmonary emphysema have been the subject of intensive investigation,37 there has been no report, so far, dealing with the hemodynamic effects of pneumoperitoneum in this disorder. The measurement of the venous pressure in the upper extremity in the course of pneumoperitoneum administration seemed to be one of the simplest methods to determine relative intrathoracic pressure changes. The results of these determinations are the subject of this preliminary report. Methods

Pulmonary function and circulatory dynamics in artificial pneumoperitoneum. II. Studies on patients with pneumoperitoneum as a therapeutic measure in pulmonary emphysema.
Although pneumoperitoneum at present is most widely used as a form of collapse therapy in pulmonary tuberculosis, this procedure had been applied some years earlier in the treatment of chronic pulmonary emphysema. In 1924 Reich’ reported on this procedure, considering 300 to 500 cc. the ideal amount of air. He found greatly improved diaphragmatic motion, increased tidal air and respiratory minu...
متن کاملSpinnaker Sail Sign Accompanied with Pneumopericardium and Pneumoperitoneum
Air-leak syndromes include pneumomediastinum, pneumothorax, pneumopericardium, pneumoperitoneum, pulmonary interstitial emphysema and subcutaneous emphysema. Pneumothorax and pneumomediastinum occur in 1 to 2% of normal neonates and they usually has no symptoms and resolves spontaneously. Here we report sudden fatal pneumomediastinum accompanied with pneumopericardium and pneumoperitoneum in no...
متن کاملTension Pneumothorax on Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Leading to Significant Pneumoperitoneum
Veno-venous and veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy is used to support the cardiac and pulmonary systems in the setting of acute failure. Maintaining adequate ECMO flow is crucial for the success of the therapy. Sudden decrease in venous return on ECMO has multiple etiologies, such as intravascular hypovolemia, malposition or kink of the venous cannula, suction occl...
متن کاملThe rationale of pneumoperitoneum treatment of emphysema.
Artificial pneumoperitoneum as a useful measure in the management of hypertrophic emphysema has been gaining recognition during the past few years. In judiciously selected cases, the therapeutic results are highly satisfactory in the great majority of instances. In the excellent paper by Kory and his associates published in this issue, a precise, objective, analytical study is presented on pulm...
متن کاملEffect of pneumoperitoneum on the phagocytosis enhancing action of blood serum.
Although the pneumoperitoneum (in the following: pnp.) treatment is considered to be an effective and generally accepted therapeutic procedure in pulmonary tuberculosis, the frequency of its use varies not only from country to country, but also from institute to institute in the same country. In Hungary the number of pnp. treatments has increased from 8.5 to 11.2 per cent in the period 1953-56....
